Whitewater New Zealand needs help to save the Hurunui River

Here is a message from Polly Miller, President of Whitewater NZ (aka NZRCA) please read this – we need plenty of help to save the Hurunui River from being dammed.

Hi all

I was floating down a river recently with the President of American Whitewater. We had a meeting at the put in for the Arahura and talked about membership – before we went and ran some of the classiest lines in NZ. Being out on the river with a good team on a sunny day is always the highlight of my week – and I’m still thinking about that day on the Arahura a month later.

New Zealand rivers are under pressure from resource hungry developers and a pro-economic development government who are looking for new opportunities to generate power and grow dairy. We all know this. Some of us work very hard to save what we have left. Many of us don’t have much spare time. I realised on the Arahura that I’ve got a large group of lovely friends who do care about rivers and don’t have much time to help save them.

There’s a very simple way you can help. Join Whitewater NZ as an individual member. It costs $30 – less than half a tank of gas or a third of a fly in to your favourite west coast run. We all need our special places to escape to. Help us save yours.

It’s really easy to do.

Just deposit $30 (plus any donation if you’re feeling super generous) to

National Bank 06-0831-0157519-00 (put your surname and initials in the reference field).
Email membership@rivers.org.nz with your name, address and transaction details. We’ll send you a copy of our magazine NZ Canoeing!  More info is of course on line – go to  www.rivers.org.nz/membership

If you’re already a member – you’re absolutely gorgeous. Consider whether you’d like to extend the invitation to join Whitewater NZ to your friends.

Thank you very much for your support
Polly
